Derek Briggs - Instructor

Derek Briggs joined TPS in September of 2003 as an adjunct instructor. He has since moved up to Lead Instructor for several courses. Recently, Derek was offered and accepted the Clinical Coordinators position with TPS and will begin that role very soon.
Derek has been employed by the Abilene Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic since 1997, with assignments within the Training Division as Lead EMS Instructor. In Feb 2007, Derek was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and is currently assigned to the Operations Division. He began his career in EMS as a volunteer in 1994 with The Colony Fire Department and later Wolfforth Fire and Rescue and Lubbock County EMS.
Derek obtained his Paramedic Certification at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock. He has since challenged and passed the National Registry Exam. Derek holds Certifications from the Texas Department of State Health Services as Instructor, Basic Tactical Medic from the Texas Tactical Peace Officers Association, Advanced Structural Firefighter, Intermediate Instructor, Field Examiner and Hazardous Materials Technician from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
In his time away from work, Derek enjoys spending time at the lake with his children and friends or just unwinding with friends and family at home. His instructional philosophy is "Train as though your life depends on it! - IT DOES!"
