Students eligible for this program MUST already hold EMT-Basic certification/registration and must have a current Healthcare Provider level CPR card or its equivalent and must send proof to TechPro within 3 weeks of registering for the course. This course is self-paced, but students must complete the program within 6 months unless the course coordinator approves a written request for extension. Students may complete sooner if they are motivated, complete all coursework in a timely manner, study skills videos and criteria sheets to prepare for practice and testing sessions in advance of those sessions, and schedule and complete clinical and field rotations promptly following clinical orientation.

Clinical orientation and skills testing completion are required PRIOR to attending rotations. Students will be required to provide proof of the following prior to being cleared for clinical orientation and must purchase one or more TechPro uniform shirts to wear with black uniform pants or slacks, black shoes, and a black belt during rotations.

  • Hepatitis B series completion
  • Hepatitis titer if series completed in advance of course
  • TB skin test within 6 months of rotations
  • Current immunizations
  • Criminal history check
  • 10 panel urine drug screen
  • Digital photo of head and shoulders for nametag with a $15 fee

Skills practice and testing sessions will be held monthly unless otherwise notified. Sessions are scheduled for the third Monday and Tuesday of each month at our building and classrooms in Abilene, Texas from 8a – 4p. (November of each year is an exception due to the State EMS Conference in Texas which is followed by Thanksgiving.) Each student is required to attend practice sessions and then demonstrate proficiency on all skills, which will require two of these sessions at a MINIMUM. When the student is ready for testing, he/she should also be ready for Final Exam and clinical orientation at that session. Students MUST prepare for the practice and testing sessions in advance by studying any and all skills videos and skills sheets available in the course. Students should bring copies of these skills sheets with them to review during the training sessions.

Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to sit for the National Registry certification examination for EMT-Intermediate 85 level.
